About the Family History Interview
The family history interview element of the Austin Memory Project seeks to interview families from both immigrant and non-immigrant families, including, but not limited to: African-American, Mexican-American/Latino and Brazilian families who have lived in Austin, including the neighborhoods of East Austin or South Austin. Specifically, we are looking for families where we can interview 3 generations of the same family. The interviews focus on the experience of living in Austin, life histories with issues of social mobility, education and media use, particularly experiences with new media such as computers and the Internet.
This project will help us understand how both values about education and social mobility, as well as ideas about media and media use, are affected by family traditions. Since 2004 this project has interviewed 148 individuals and their families in Austin and surrounding communities.
If you know of families that might be interested in participating in this research project, or if you would be willing to be interviewed yourself, along with other family members, please contact Jeremiah Spence or Joseph Straubhaar, Department of Radio, TV & Film, University of Texas at Austin.
